Headlights

Greetings to all, I have a 2005 diesel Excursion. Purchased used 2 years ago with 52k on it. The headlight performance has always been poor at best. I tried the top halogen bulbs, then replaced with HID. They have been aligned by the dealer and nothing seems to work. Useable visibility is about 100 feet at night. I live where the deer population is substantial and night time becomes musical gears and what's my lane. I am now looking at replacing them with projection headlights. Has anyone done the same and did it improve night time visibility? If so which manufacture has the best?

hum, I love my '05 headlights, they seem better than my past vehicles.. I find in totally dark areas (even in rain) they are fine, but in areas with overhead street lights I can't see out the windshield from the glare..

maybe we need to polish the windshield - I think that's what it is called..

I just swapped out my lights with some yellow tinted ones and did the same with my fogs and I can see great on the back roads.

The stock lights on my '01, I couldn't see too much. When I upgraded to the 2002 Crystaline headlights, even with the stock hallogen bulbs, I could see worlds better.

With the '05 headlights, I actually see quite well with those. The distance isn't a problem and driving down an empty dark freeway, I can see a good ways down the road.

Maybe you just need some good, stock bulbs?

I have HIDs in my heads and fogs. The stock housings don't cut it. If the only traffic on those back roads is the deer, then get some dedicated driving lights. The KCs listed in my sig have saved me from numerous strikes. So far I've always had enough time to slow down when they're in or on the side of the road. The best thing to get them out of the way are the air horns. That makes them scatter.

Also FWIW, I go to my UT house just about every weekend. As I get closer to it, the roads are infested with deer from fall to spring. I set up my lighting just for them. The bastages are everywhere.

I have the 05-07 style from headlights depot on amazon for about $150. World of difference. You have to cut away 90% of the header panel so a 05-07 header might just be easier as I have a little vibration on the lights now. They fit great and have very good projection for OEM style with just silver star ultra bulbs.
