Newbie

Newbie here looking for info on improving towing with my 2004 V10. Still have a lot of threads to read but thot I'd introduce myself right quick....

Purchased in March with 70,000 miles. Got so I could haul all the family and my 32' TT. Having a lot of issues with porpoising and rear axle steering. I'm not much of a guru like some of you I've been reading about just simply looking to do some mods/upgrades to get a better tow. Thanks in advance for all the info.

Check out the steering wander compilation thread in the tech folder. Tons of good threads compiled there in one thread.

And welcome to FTE. Don't forget to post pics of your Ex!

You need to have your pictures uploaded and hosted at a picture hosting website like Photobucket.com

Once you do that, you can post the direct link here with the proper image tags and the picture will show.

I'll have to play with that later. There are a couple in my profile for now.

I just have a round bar WD hitch 1400lb. I am using a single friction anti sway bar.

With the length of your trailer, consider throwing away the friction brake, and set yourself up with a Reese Dual-Cam. It is easy to set-up, and even with all stock Excursion suspension, you will be more stable towing then disconnected!
I bought a 2005 Ex new, and have a 30ft TT that has a dry weight of 7760. Before I did all the spring changes and sway bars and shocks, I installed the Reese Dual Cam, and was able to tow much safer and more comfortable for over 20K miles.

Also, look into replacing the little mirrors with 2008+ towing mirrors. You will be so glad, as they are the best towing mirror I have used to date. The tow mirrors from 00 to 07 are ok, but the 08+ mirrors are light years ahead.

Again welcome!

ditto

almost all of my wander problems were caused by weak rear springs and front springs.

do a V/B swap (or version of) and you'll notice a huge increase in stability. also look at new shocks (after) as well, and a rear swaybar. for not a lot of money, you can have your Excursion 'riding on rails' so to speak.
