So here is the back story I replaced my head gaskets this summer and in my gasket kit was just the gaskets for the sides and front of the intake and not the whole valley pan gasket. I did not think anything of it and just replaced the valley pan style with the other style.
Now to the real question is I am looking to have to pull the intake again and want to know if I should order the valley pan style gasket or if the other style? I an running the stock cast iron intake. thanks for the information.
This is the 460? Never took one of those apart, but this next time when you take the intake off, look on the bottom of the intake. I am assuming you do not have a metal shield there, and that is what the other valley pan gasket was, a shield.
If on the bottom of the intake you have a lot of black burnt up carbon crud there, then yes I would get the correct gasket with the shield. If you do not have a bunch of crud built up, or you already have a metal shield riveted to the bottom of the intake, then I would not worry about the shield type of gasket.
