I work in Europe for a month at a time and this time when I came home My truck wouldn't crank. I found many problems caused by the rats, mostly wires chewed in half and the air filter full of horse feed and other stuff... but the bad part is I have three wires that look like they are supposed to conect into a plug that is near the crank pully. Well, the wires are just bare and chewed up while the connector on the engine side is nice and neat - ready to be plugged into. I think that's why it still won't start. Any ideas on how to fix this one? I'd solder them in place if I knew which wire went where... the wires are green, blue and brown with white stripe
Thanks,
Brian
And to add to what jas88 pointed out, its kinda rare for them to use solid color wire for anything, almost always will have a contrasting color stripe too.
And that ole saying "A picture is worth a thousand words" might apply here too!
Sorry I tried to enter the info when I opened the account but I guess it didn't come up. It's a 96 F350 dually with a powerstroke. I have a picture of the wires I just need to figure oit how to post it
When I lived in the California desert rats were a real problem for many. They are using the wire coating and other material from your vehicle to make nests.
Buy some large rat traps and use plain, cheap, peanut butter. The love it!
Some people would kill every snake they could which is foolish as they feed on the rats. I suppose there are a lot of people who are afraid of them. Personally, I like them.
I have a horrible problem with pack rats where I live, I have used traps, poison and what ever you can think of, the only thing that has stopped them is I leave the hood open a small bit and they won't crawl under the hood when it is open, they like privacy and with the hood open the light gets in and the wind blows through, I did have to take the bulb out of the under hood light, which is a small price to pay to keep the damn rats out!

Try plain, cheap peanut butter for bait in your traps. It works. Put some traps around the wall and a couple in your engine compartment.
Believe me Boon, I own stock in Peanut Butter companies, the pack rats don't look twice at it, believe me the ONLY thing that has worked is keeping the hoods open a bit, they won't crawl in there while the hood is open.

Really? That is all that the guys used and the rats "loved it to death".
You are absolutely right as they do not like open conditions; sneaky little devils.
A couple of King Snakes would cure the problem.
The only problem is that snakes are in hibernation now.
Ok so we covered the topic of what to do about rats... anyone have any idea how I can get these 3 wires connected back up to the little plug in thingy? LOL It bolts up next to where the crank pulley is and since the rats ate off the male plug in and left 3 bare wires I have to figure out a way to connect them back inside this little female receptacle. I guess maybe a junkyard may be my only option? I tried using different typtes of connectors yesterday to slide on but that not going to work ..
Thanks for the help guys!
A Pair of side cutters and a Junk yard is going to be your best friend in this instance, or course you are going to have to buy some shrink heat tube butt connectors and a good quality wire crimper as well.

I always kept my hoods open! They ate the **** out of everything, anyway! impish
Worse problem yet, if you have a manual trans., there are two quarter-sized vent holes on the upper back side of the bell housing (M5OD). Mice got in through those, brought in much grass, which weaved itself into a rope, caught between pressure plate fingers and pressure plate itself, kept clutch from fully engaging, clutch began slipping as though worn out!
Glued screen over vent holes, never believed I'd see the day! impish
