I have an '87... and even though the interior design is different than the '89, if the speakers are the same, the dash ones are 3 1/2" (if '89+ had dash speakers, I doubt it though, you prolly have door speakers).
Just for comparison, my '85 has the 3.5" in the dash, but I've got a set of 6x9" in the stock location in the rear. I used 180w rated Pioneers both front and back. Two-way up front, 4-way in the rear.
I've also ran into an '88 Eddie Bauer that had factory looking 4x6" in the rear.

I currently have Boston FX3 60w 3.5" speakers in the dash, and I'm not what size the rear ones are, I never measured, the previous owner upgraded those. They are Pioneer 120w, though. I need to go take off the grille from one of 'em and measure the size. As many know, the first gen BIIs didn't have door speakers, but my truck has some metal, or steel or something, covers where speakers would go. If you take 'em off you can see where someone cut a hole in each door panel to put speakers. I never measured the sizes, though, and I couldn't find any wiring in the door shell for speakers, so I dunno.
go to bestbuy.com and go to the car audio section and u can select your vehicle and it will tell you which speakers will work and which ones will not fit. I also have an '89 and they had special sized speakers that were to fit in the doors.. so check it out
