as many of you know already ive been chasing some weird engine problems lately, ive reasoned out one thing.
since the whole ordeal started almost a year ago, there has been one constant variable, and one constant problem.
now that ive gone through the engine 100%, there is no way that it is a mechanical problem, all my ignition hardware is new so rule out spark.
that leaves the fuel. I have used the same carb on both my engines, and they both have had the same problem. random misfiring.
SO, being that one of my signs of trouble is that I can screw the idle screws all in and all out without much change in idle quality, I heard that there is a possibility of the screws being worn out and not seating properly. has anyone else heard of this kinda thing? I don't remember what they looked like, but im going home and taking them out to inspect them. if this is what has been causing my problem all along then holy crap....
Hmm oh dude it sounds like the power valve is blown or bad. If you can run the idle jets in all the way and the engine keeps running then replace the power valve.
If the carb was a Q-Jet late 70's into 80's the idle jet circuit was reverses where as backing the jets out cut off the fuel to the idle circuit.
orich
I remember there used to be a couple of different part number for the idle mixture screws over the life of the Ford 2V carb. I suppose it is possible you have the wrong screws in there. The difference between them WAS the taper on the tip of the screws. The taper on the screws and in the carb would of course have to match. Saying this is for future readers not for you, buddy. I know you would know about the having to match.
