But, since I was this far I decided to remove all the walls, insulate and clean some other stuff up. Ran a bunch of cables, phone lines, data, etc. Hopefully I will be installing drywall this weekend.
Any comments are welcome and appreciated. Thanks
It's amazing what happens after you start down the road of the first six words in the quote. LOL Make it what you want, and have fun. It'll be worth it in the end.
The floor had vinyl squares on it before. I hated that look. I considered laminate floor but don't care a whole lot for that. Carpet is out because of allergies with the kids.
What would you recommend? I already purchased the tile but I still have the other half of my downstairs to do so I am open for suggestions for the rest of it.
Your best bet Ray is to get some Sika Primer MB
I come across that (cutback) all the time and some people will say to skim coat with feather finish but I don`t trust that. Primer/sealer costs about $100 and what you do is scrape any excess cutback then roll this stuff on. It`s a simple two part mixture that after you roll it you have 2-3 days to cover it or you have to scuff it up. I get about 400' per bucket
So Ray correct me if I`m wrong. You spent many hours and about 150.00 on getting adhesive off, right? Still back to square 1
Trust me Roll this on and cover bada boom done. Doing this for 33 years so I kinda know why I get up in the morning
I initially looked into using the Sika MB over the cutback but after reading the application information I found online, it didn't look like it was for use under tile and it looked like it still wanted the cutback removed. I tried scraping it and nothing short of my right-angle grinder would take it off. The 747 was the only stuff that softened it enough to remove it. I almost tried gas but smartened up first. :-)
If surface contains asphalt (cutback) adhesive follow the Resilient Floor Covering Institute “Recommended Work Practices” for removal. When the asphalt (cutback) adhesive is sufficiently removed use the Sika Primer MB to help promote adhesion to the subfloor – or use an industry approved levelling compound over the cutback residue.
I wish some of you guys were local....I'd pay someone to do it but don't trust anyone around here.
I hate loose ends so wanted to update everyone on the progress of this little project. Over the winter I finished the walls and got it all painted.
I found a tile guy through a friend and he gave me a great price to lay the tile. He recommended I sand the floor with a flooring edger and 36 grit paper and then put Redguard on it. I did as he instructed (both simple jobs) and he put the tile down yesterday. It came out very nice in my opinion.
Thanks again for all of the advice and assistance. Guys on here make a project so much easier.
I forgot to mention that the guy I hired to lay the tile told me he had never seen a homeowner prep a job so well. He was amazed that within 10 minutes of arriving at my house he was mudding tile.
If he only knew the work that went into that prep... :-)
