97 f150 code P0442.....

my buddies truck keeps getting this code for evaporative emission system leak, from what i am reading could be as simple as the gas cap. however has anyone else had this problem that might know of a more spacific place to start looking. its a 97 f150 reg cab long bed 4.6. I never had anything like this with my 99 4.6 so this is new to me.

Start by checking the fuel filler neck where the cap seats, then with a new Motorcraft gas cap.

After that, it gets hard and usually requires a shop visit for a smoke test.
