97 f250 460 auto
Idles 1000 to 1100 when warm, seems a tad high to me for drivability. Should I adjust it and to what?
Recently went back to stock throttle body from bbk. Might have lost a little snoose but seems to drive better / doesn't kick down on freeway near as much and mpg might have increased.
Warm the engine up, unplug the idle valve, and then set the idle to just high enough that the engine can barely keep it self running. So probably 450-500 RPM or so. Then plug the idle valve back in.
Yeah that set screw on the TB is not supposed to be touched, idle speed is cntrolled by the computer but it must get accurate throttle position data and the Idle bypass valve must be operational and not clogged or sticking, so look into those 2 devices first.
My f250 460 truck has the same high idle roughly 1000 rpm in park and around 750-800 in drive. This just seems high to me as other trucks we own ( 01 yukon) idle around 5-600.
