Crewcab for the win! The tail gate step is sweet, but the pole is worthless. You can take the pole out and put just a normal piece there for $80 bucks.
I had an ext cab 2 small rear doors for 8 years. I liked it more than a reg cab as I had some extra room. Now that I've got a crew cab I really like having the extra room, its accessable with the crew. The doors always rattled on the ext cab.
If you have kids the crew is much more convient as you are not continuously opening a front door to let them out.
The crew cab can seat full sized adults comfortably in the rear as well.
When I was looking for a SD I had originally wanted to get a Super Cab because that's what my F-150 was. After going to the dealer and actually looking at the back seat of the Super Cab I changed my mind in about 2 seconds. I immediately closed the door and handed the key back to the salesman and told him to go find a key for a Crew Cab.
It's usually just me in the truck but the extra space for storage (stuff piled on the floor) is nice to have. There is also the upside that it's plenty big enough back there the lay down on the bench and sleep. I've done that a couple times on long trips where I didn't want to pay for a hotel.
After having a Crew Cab I will never go back to a Super Cab again.
The only downside to the CC/LB combo is that you need about a 1/4 mile to turn around and 2-4 spaces in a parking lot. I really hate any time I need something from the local mall because it's impossible for my truck to make the turn from one parking row to the next.
I don't normally have problems placing the gooseneck. Do it a few times and it should be easy. However, there are times when the gooseneck trailer is parked by slopes and hills that cause odd lines to be required to get everything to line up. For that I picked up an iBall wireless camera setup. Works great. I just leave it under the back seat storage until I need it. Pull it out, pop the magnetic base of the camera on the bed rail immediately behind the window, and plug the display into the cigarette lighter. Get out once it's lined up, lower it onto the ball, close the hasp, and throw the camera and display back in the truck. I never worry about it anymore.
Crew cab all the way. I kick myself everyday for not going with a crew cab. Not that sons getting older is really a pain in the butt. The extra space is very nice. That's what I would reccomend.
I don't need a rear seat and removed it from my F250 SuperCab. The room back there is used for a tool box and cargo. I prefer a SuperCab due to its shorter length which makes it easier to maneuver and park.
Next truck will be a CCLB. Now if I can just determine gas or diesel....What do you guys think? Just kidding-plenty of those threads on here!
I will say this though I have the supercab longbed now. I love the look of it and I can do a 3 point turn on a 2-lane road. It works pretty well for the kids. I've also had my dad and 2 of my brothers (we're all over 6'4) and pulled the boat out for a fishing day. Were any of us comfortable? No. Did it do the job? Yes. Saved a trip for someone. I think that is the point of them, for kids, pets, storing gear, and occasionally if you have to adults. I know for a fact in a pinch, I could get 6 adults somewhere legally. Most of the time though its just me and a kid or 2.
I took myself and 3 of my friends, all over 6', to NJ over the summer in my truck and we were very comfortable! Plenty of room for everyone. Only complaint was no power port in the back, gotta work on that. I also have rear bucket seats though

I have to add that mine's a 2 wheel drive so my turning radius is much better then the 4 wheelers.
My brother drove mine a while back after driving his 99 F-250 4x4 and it's the first thing he noticed... And liked.
Something to consider when buying a CC if not up in the snow.
