steering wheel to column gap
I have a 1970 F250 2wd. I have replaced the Ford steering box with a Red Head unit. I have installed a new rubber coupler. I have replaced the shift collar and upper bearing. My steering wheel has about a 1/4" gap between it and the steering column, it's been this way since I bought the truck. I'd like to fix this. I've seen in the shop manual a procedure for adjusting this. Loosen the column and slide it up. I tried and mine would not budge. Has anyone had to do this?

There's a clamp on the firewall plate (engine compartment side) that needs to be loosened. Also loosen the clamp securing the column tube under the dash.
Now push down on the steering wheel & shaft while pulling up on the column tube to achieve a 1/8-inch gap.
Be mindful to not distort the rag joint as to cause undue stress on it.
