I'm finding the air temperature alone over the same stretch of road hits me. 50 degrees F one day and 20 degrees F the next day whacked me about 1 MPG. I want to find a way to compensate for some of the root causes mentioned above. How are those Derale Transmission Thermostats installed last year treating everybody? Did they impact the cooling of the transmission in the summer?

Hi Rich,

I only have limited experience in the summer with mine, as I sold the Excursion in June. From what I remember it did just fine, unloaded on the highway my transmission was between 185-190° when it was in the 80°s. One time I towed my enclosed trailer loaded to around 9,500 lbs into the wind at 70° and I got as high as 212° at 60 MPH. I wasn't real happy with that, but I didn't keep the X long enough to do any real troubleshooting. My 6.0L cooler was purchased used, so it's possible that it had a blockage.

It worked GREAT in the winter though!

I've done this test. No changes to MPG. I drive the same 56 miles to work and the same 56 miles back every day. Always between 50 and 80 degrees.

There is no gain to be had. Not from my experience.
But feel free to try...

Besides, I would rather be comfortable and reduce my tank-to-tank by 20 miles than be uncomfortable for 400 miles of that tank.

I know.

I didnt know that was part of the test. This whole thing seems silly to me.
Winter fuel doesnt make a difference how much parasitic draw your A/C will have on your motor, so it doesnt matter what diesel youre using, as long as its consistent through out the test.
