Hey guys I have an '06 F250 and the drivers side battery has some sort of hard plastic housing around it. What's the easy way to get the damn thing off?
And I would like to keep it off so I can check electrolyte levels....
Any reason for the plastic housing?

I just cut enough of the top plastic off so I could check the battery and leave the protector in place. I believe it's a heat protector as the passenger side has a blanket.
Some batteries provide enormous cranking power. Others, deep cycle reserve power. The revolutionary ODYSSEY® battery is designed to do both.
How is this possible? The answer begins with flat plates made of 99.99% pure virgin lead - not lead alloy. Pure lead plates can be made thinner, so we can fit more of them in the battery. More ODYSSEY battery plates mean more plate surface area. And that means more power – twice as much as conventional batteries.
In fact, ODYSSEY batteries are capable of providing engine cranking pulses in excess of 2250 amps for 5 seconds – double to triple that of equally sized conventional batteries, even at very low temperatures. And they can handle 400 charge-discharge cycles to 80% depth of discharge.
This extreme combination of power and performance makes ODYSSEY batteries perfect for a range of applications, including automotive/LTV, marine, commercial, and powersports.
Are Optima batteries a good choice for our trucks. I can get them for $120 a piece.

Optima has been around for quite some time...I have seen mixed reviews out there on the interwebs which seem mostly positive to neutral, but I cannot vouch for them.
I bought a new set earlier the year, from Ford, $99.99 each. Not sure to if they were on sale but $200 for a set isn't bad. My originals were 7.5 years old.
It's clear to me that this battery thread has gone the route of the oil threads. Do what your comfortable with, can afford and trust the seller to back the warranty. Everybody usually has a best deal or experience for something. A .5% problem over the whole sum of experiences does not necesarily mean a bad product.

How has this worked out? I topped off the water on my car and wife's truck as well as mine. My wife's SUV battery it was the death knell ,killed it soon after, I made sure I used distilled water . I'm thinking debris fell in from around the top and contaminated the fluid. So now I'm scared to top off ,as most batteries I have never had issue with and would last 3-4 yrs.
If I told you my source I would be putting myself out of business.
You bring me a beer when you are in the area and I'll bring you some special CMK batteries.
Hey I would Love some custom Batteries next time I need them
Any Aftermarket batteries anymore seems to have recycled Lead in them and Die Fast Most AM Batteries seam to be Junk anymore really if they go 4 years that's Good but your on Borrowed time it seams like
So if possible I would like CMK Batteries that would be Sweet honestly You could bump the CCA up some
What are you Running in your truck now?? CMK Batteries?? What CCA are they at??

Interesting^^^ That's how I have Topped mine off too in the Past just used Distilled water Heck when I was a Teenager I would just slap tap water in them LOL But I have been using Distilled water for the last 10 years or so
Maybe we need to use Sulfuric acid IDK maybe its hard to get or maybe its a Bad Idea IDK
Maybe we need to look into Desulfating the Batteries
I haven't ever done that and don't know much or really anything about it It don't sound to hard to do but IDK what involved But I keep reading that it helps them last longer
