My new to me 93 F150 2WD 5L has a problem.
When in defrost mode, plenty of air center to the driver side
Very little defrost air volume, center to the pass side.
When I switch to vent mode, works as it should on both sides
I think that I have checked the obvious stuff, but hesitate to disassemble without a logical idea of what to do.
I think somewhere a vacuum line is bad. For a long time when I had AC on and was going up a hill or any heavy acceleration the vents would shoot to defrost mode(default) when the vacuum was low. Traced it down to cracked line. AC in defrost position on 100* + day = no good. lol
I found the panel defrost vacc motor( with red tube attached) behind the ash tray assy.
I got my hand on the actuator lever to feel the operation.
Off position--lever retracted
Floor position--lever still retracted
Mix position--lever moves out a bit
Defrost pos-- lever moves all the way out...can't pull out manually any more travel
I think the vacuum operates the the motor as it should. Don't think its a vacc line problem
Ain't too sure what would cause this... if the vacuum motor is diverting air to the defrost duct then it shouldn't be leaking out anywhere. You sure something didn't fall down into the ducts on the pax side of the dash? The defrost duct is all one piece so unless it somehow split, the previous owner had his way with it, or something is blocking it, then the defrost air should be evenly distributed. You can see the defrost duct here along the top of the (upside down) dash... all one piece.
Not hard at all. Disconnect and remove the steering column... 4 bolts + 1 bolt on shaft. Disconnect the main cab electrical harnesses from the engine side of the firewall, then pop the bulkhead connectors free. Pull the parking brake pedal out, then the steering column support. The support is probably the hardest part, it requires some wiggling to sneak it past the dash. Then the dash itself has a bolt or two on each end, a couple underneath, and 4 or 5 across the top right by the defrost opening. Pull it towards you, reach behind and disconnect a few things like radio antenna cable and HVAC cables... pull dash out of truck. Then you'll see the entire hvac system hanging on the firewall. I have a pic. I'll try to post it...
Will probably be a few weeks before I have a chance to get back to it

Like Brad said, it's gotta be a blockage somewhere, and as you can see by the pictures, it would have to be in the dash portion of the ductwork where it splits out to cover the entire windshield area.
