That is one of the reasons I won't ever be getting rid of mine. It makes a world of difference getting a load moving when compared to the automatic. I have owned both at the same time and liked the 5.4 better than the 7.3, but I won't ever own an automatic(except for the wife's vehicles), so I vote 7.3 for the stick but 5.4 for your needs. 10k lbs won't bother the 5.4 at all.

There was one for sale last week 5.4 ext cab 5 spd flatbed rims and nice AT tires 4x4 with 170k for $5400. I left the house with plans to buy it but I got down the road to the jobsite and realized i forgot my cash. Called next day and it was gone. Still pissed
I would avoid that 7.3, big tires that appear to be rubbing the front bumper, large 4 or 5 inch exhaust, its probably had the snot run out of it pulling large trailers.
I used to work on a fleet of 5.4 and V10 trucks and vans. The most one truck needed after 200,000 miles aside from maintenance was 2 COP's. They pulled all sorts of cable trailers, always loaded with material and crew, you name it. We have a very large 28' flat trailer with a direct bore machine, water tank, and rods scaling at #13,000 fully loaded, the truck weighed #7,600. Throw that trailer on a fully loaded F350 CC SRW (2001) with 5 guys and tools its very heavy fast. The "little" 5.4 was thirsty and overworked, idled all day you name it. We sent it to auction with 218,000 hard miles on it, aside from a fuel pump and an alternator it needed nothing except maintenance.
At 250,000 miles its coming up to injector time. Keep in mind that the motor may be ok but its everything else around it that will start to show its age and mileage from ball joints to the axles. If the seller "hasn't done anything to it in 2 years" and there's green coolant in it id close the hood and thank him for his time.
I went from a V10 to a 7.3 excursion and I currently have a 6.2L F250. I loved my 7.3 but I rarely towed with it after selling my trailer and the maintenance wasn't worth keeping it the diesel. I don't miss the stink or the clatter! Personally I would buy the Green Ext cab, at only 105,000 miles and being a clean truck Id say go for it. A well maintained modular Ford gas motor will go an easy 300,000 miles with proper maintenance

Reason: year, spelling

Thanks for the reply, I think im leaning toward the green truck. I see hundreds of gas fords pulling landscape eq. everyday and I sure many of them are 5.4's and they get ABUSED. I only put about 10k a year on my pickups so I think I should be problem free for me. Being a former 7.3 owner, I don't think as highly of the engine and surrounding components as many people. Actually the reason I sold it was because all I did was throw parts at it (only 90k miles) and damn thing never started in cold weather even after glow plugs and relay.
Another vote for the green 5.4. That is one clean-looking truck. And at 10k miles/year, the gasser will certainly fit the bill and provide low-cost maintenance.
Good thing i got a history report before I left up there to buy it. According to carcheck and carfax the truck has 218,000 miles on it. Sure doesnt look that way from the pictures.

Have you contacted the seller to ask about the discrepancy , Might be a really good bargaining tool because I would still say that's a nice truck..
