Hi everybody, I've got a question about the power steering conversion for a 76 f250 highboy. I recently just purchased this truck and there is no power steering, instead of rebuilding the power assit thats on there I would like to switch it to the integral power steering. And yes I have done a lot of reserch but I am still kind of confused. I know that a 78-79 F250 steering box would be best but trying to find one for a good price around here is tough. I have a steering box out of a 78 F150 4wd will this work if I change the internals to a 80-96 steering box and if so what pitman arm/ drag link set up would I need? Or is it just best to go with a 78-79 F250 box and be done with it? Im sorry if this is a dumb question i just need a little help there. Thanks in advance!
No need to try to re-invent the wheel. The '78-'79 F-250 4x4 set-up is a solid system. Use it.
Back in the before times we used a '65-'66 T-bird or Lincoln steering gear for power steering conversions on hi-boys. The conversions looked like a carbon copy of the '78-'79 set up.
Hmm,interesting ive got two highboys converted to Integral power steering, but they arent both set up the same. One a 77, has the same 4 bolts securing the box to the frame, while my 76 has the box positioned higher up with 2 bolts going through the frame member and steering box, and a tab welded on top of that frame member and a bolt securing the box via a both thru that tab, this truck also has had part of the radiator support cut to allow clearance for the box, while the 77 has had the crossmember notched and boxed
