'79 Stepside build
This will be my first restoration project so I am hoping for some guidance and to let me know when I'm doing it wrong.
The goods:
Interior is in fair shape and won't need too much
It drove home 95miles when I bought it
Frame is straight with no scabs or bends
Floor pans only have minor holes
All glass is in good shape
It's a step side bed
All electrical appears to work as it should
What needs attention:
Exhaust/Intake Manifold gasket leaking
Parking brake bracket in the cab is bent, floppy, and won't set brake
Carb needs to be rebuilt/adjusted
EGR is disconnected/capped off
Ujoints need replacing
All hoses need replacing
Ignition key gets stuck and doesn't wont to turn unless you jiggle it
Fuel gauge doesn't work
Tail light are cheap trailer lights that are cracked
Steering has about 40-60deg of play
Clutch has a rubbing/grinding when fully pushed in
Clutch "clunks" sometimes when you pop out
Rear Drivers side shock mount broken
Needs shocks
Has more rust holes then I wanted, but.........
What I've done so far:
Plugs
Wires
Cap & button
Oil & filter, with Lucas oil stabilizer
air filter, kind of. Has a small 6" diameter filter, couldn't find anything that size at the box stores so I have a lawn mower filter on it temporarily until I get a new setup for the full size filters.
Next step I want to do is replace the manifold gasket. What's the best way to make sure I don't break any bolts off. I plan on stopping by Summit and getting the stud setup to replace the bolts for reassembly. I have the Felpro gasket.
Thanks!!
Pictures to come this weekend.
