Mine idles at about 525 in drive. Anymore than that and it tries to overpower the brakes.
Mine fast idle is around 1000 or so maybe a bit more. Normal idle is about 750-800 and in drive drops down to 500 or so, possibly even lower. Considerably and Very low. Like there is a good gap between lopes. Runs great. Torque converter is stock, tach works fine. Want to say my torque peaks at 1,800-2,200.
Hot idle in park on mine is about 800. In gear is about 525. I don't remember what my emissions tag says. I remember I set it to that and it tries to over power the brakes, especially with what the engine is now and how it's setup. Tach works fine, stock converter.

I lied, I just watched a video of mine running an high idle in park and in gear is like around 1100-1200. It drops a a good amount going into normal idle, (tapped the gas in park) and then drops to around 500 in gear. I'm on my 3rd motor anyways and don't really care about this one too much so meh lol.
Judging on what I just saw, mine sort of sits like this:
Park: Automatic High Idle: 1100-1200, tap the gas, drops to low idle 750-800
In Gear: Moving from park in low idle to in gear drops it from 800 to 450-500.
In Gear Fast Idle: Drops to 450-500 mid paced, not fast drop but gradual and revs come up as I hit the gas. Idle speeds change as needed
Park in fast idle to in gear: See above

Mine is somewhere in that ballpark. Its very very fast. The video is on YouTube tho I may have shown you it already. I showed someone on here.
Here's the video. Ignore the crappy recording I was testing to see how well my iPod could capture sound. Tried not to rip up the yard so he went easy on it. Started spinning then the other side kicked in and it was smooth sailing. You can see it kick in too, the side spinning slips just a hair if you pay attention then click and it moves. This was the first start in 4-5 months as well. Surprised it took so long, usually fires right up with hardly any cranking. Motor has 50k on it since built. Believe it or not it has cats an mufflers and is still that loud.
The first 3 minutes are the action. The rest it literally sits there idling. Boring. I took this is last summer.
Someone want to tell me what that whistle sound is when he parks it in the driveway and taps the as so it hits normal idle? Happened at 2 minutes in. Trucks always done it. Lacks no power. Also language warning from my dad.
Mine makes the same noise, it's either the power steering pump or transmission pump making an operating noise as far as I can tell.
The noise at startup is the power steering. I was low on fluid after a mouse chewed a hole in one of the rubber hoses on it. There's some wet spots on the driveway right underneath it. We moved it those months before and lost power steering, so we pulled the cap and it was empty. It was sloshing around what little bit it had left, sounded like a bunch of steel ball bearings being shaken in a plastic bottle. My friend thought it was a supercharger lol.
The whistle at 2 minutes I find strange. Only seen it happen on YouTube a few times. Always done it. Never had anything wrong with it. I figured it was probably the way the air was being sucked through the carb, making it whistle.

Mine has made the same noise the entire time I've had it. And nothing is wrong with my drive train. I've seen other trucks like ours make the same noise on Youtube too.

Yeah I've only seen it like twice. Once on some guys 390 and another on some Econoline that had a 302 in it. Never knew what it was. Hope someone can tell me. Glad I'm not the only one that has hear that noise. I had a rather crappy recording on my phone that actually picked up the sound really well, sounded like it was sucking in ungodly amounts of air. Seems to go away by 2500 rpm, an only is audible during short blips of the throttle. Doesn't matter if the engine is warm or not.
I know the drivetrain is fine. The C6 was rebuilt not more than a year or 2 before we took it off the rode in 2007. Transfer case looks brand new, torque converter is fine etc etc.
Amen! You will have a warranty if you buy the package, but maybe not otherwise.
But you do know that you need a strong dose of break-in lube on the cam & lifters as well as in the oil to break in a cam - right? And the cam manufacturers recommend that you use an oil with high ZDDP forever after.
Reduced ZDDP in current SM rated oils may have an effect at cold startup.
I use a filter with an effective anti-drain back valve and cheap Rotella diesel oil.
That 3500 cam seems fine. (though I am growing tired of it)
