When i turn the key, you can hear the starter, but not the engine rolling over. I think im gonna try dumping more MMO in the cylinders, see if it'll break it loose this time.
Early on he mentioned that yes, he did the Marvel Mystery, let it sit, tryed turning it with a breaker bar, nada.......And yeah it would be easier if we didnt have to practically "waterboard" him to find out more about the truck and what he has done already
And by the way, Nathaniel if you think im being an A$$, thats not my goal, its just tough when we practically have to interrogate you for more info.........For your sake, i hope the motor frees up, you get it running and some time later you have a real cool success story about what youve done with this truck........Ive always loved these Highboys
Does the truck shift into and out of gear and roll while in neutral? How does the tranny fluid look? Lastly, how big of a boy are ya? My future son in law weighs about 110 lbs. soaking wet, I garuntee that he couldn't turn over a motor with a breaker bar even if it isn't seized up, maybe you just need a stronger back.
The truck shifts in and out of gear good, rolls in and out of neutral (found out when we loaded it on the trailer), tranny fluid looks good, though I'm probably going to change it (as well as all the fluids) if and when I get it running
I think part of the frustration here, Nathaniel, is that engines don't just "freeze up"...unless its really, really cold. They can seize, they can rust, they can crack blocks and heads, break cranks, and sometimes just be flat-*** stubborn, but they don't just "freeze up" from sitting. The most likely cause is either A) cast iron rings rusted to the cylinder walls. Or B) your trans is stuck in a drive gear (band rusted to drum). Try putting it in nuetral and turning it, by hand, with as big a breaker bar as you can find. Dodges have a 1.25" crank bolt, what size is a Ford's? (Sorry, Ford noob here). Do it with the plugs out. If Marvel's didn't work then try PB Blaster...and be generous with it. Don't give up on the thing, if ya break the rings, so what, it wasn't gonna run seized-up either. Come back and tell how it goes. If you've never done it before, be forewarned: getting derelict engines to fire and run can be addictive, it turns itself into its own hobby.
Getting it to roll on and off the trailer only proves that axles are free, and that transfer case functions. Did you say that it will roll whether or not the A/T is in Neutral or any other position PRND21, cause if thats the case the transfer case is in Neutral rather than either Lo Lock, Lo,Neutral,Hi, or Hi Lock (Full time Np203) or 4 Lo,Neutral, 2wd, 4hi (part time Np205) or were you speaking of the actual column shifted automatic, as in it seems to engage all ranges, including neutral? when you have it in a position where it rolls freely, have you tried turning that crank bolt in both Park and Neutral positions, and with the transfer case in a drive range as well as in Neutral? Make sure the wheels are blocked front and back.....And the PB Blaster spoken of is really good stuff, especially if you let it sit and work awhile......and the engine appears to already be broken, breaking a ring really wont matter much..........BTW, if you can round up a couple buddies, have them push the vehicle while you sit in it, and drop the tranny into drive.......a little shock load just might loosen stuff up
Sounds like you broke more rings than I did lol. The 390 I did that to didn't smoke at all it was just a dog.
if the smoke was black instead of blue you'd think it was a diesel, rings were completely shot and yes it was a dog but hey 200 bucks and a year of fun i'm not complaining.
