Getting ready to change the upper control arm and put lower ball joints in my 4wd
LD. I was going to order moog parts from rockauto but wanted to get the parts before I start. Should I order an oversize ball joint or wait to see if it's
necessary? Truck has 221k miles on it. Is the oversize so much larger that I
won't be able to get it in if the whole isn't enlarged? Thanks for any opinions.
The oversize is made to cover for a worn hole.
It amounts to light splining to make the diameter larger.
It should press in ok even if not needed to be oversize.
Borrow the tools because the joint design and mounting is different from old standards.
Good luck.
Are you talking about the cam-bolts at the upper control arm mounts ? Yes, in my opinion, it is a good investment. It makes alignments so much easier, so much more than just trying to slide the upper control arm around in the mount and trying to lock the bolts down. Moog is a great brand and you should be able to get them from RockAuto along with the rest of your parts. I did the same thing with my '01 4 years ago New upper arms and cam bolts. I offroad more than the average Joe, but don't bash my truck either, and my alignment has held just fine. Keep those new joints greased up and you are Good To Go.
