New to me truck, so going through things trying to get it back to stock more or less. Came across this under the hood, and not sure what it is/was for. I know there was a camper on this truck at some point, and there was an extra battery mounted under the hood on the driver side. Am guessing it was for the camper, but not sure why the solenoid.
It is tied in to the factory harness where I have it circled in the picture.
Some of the cut wires look factory. A red, white, and a couple of blues are taped up. Also circled.
Please shed some light on this mystery, before I rip them out.
Oh yeah, there is an add on brake controller I want to leave.
Here you can see the original battery, and the feed cable that goes under the radiator support, and across to the driver side inner fender. This must be how the add-on battery was charged. Is it a dealer item?
The wires are factory installed. They allow you to install accessories in the cab without having to pass additional wires thru the firewall.
What does the solenoid do? and why if it is factory installed, is it spliced into the OEM harness. The wire loom was peel back, and a red wire spliced in then taped up. Doesn't look factory to me. Also the fuse block under the hood has a blue and a white wire connected. Those wires were run through the firewall and hooked into the main fuse panel. Two 20A fuses were removed, and they were stuck in place of the fuse. Then RTV was added to help cement them in place. Definitely not factory. Dealer maybe!
So why the extra added battery? Was it set up special for the camper shell?
