I have a 91 f250 with the 5.8L. On the back of the engine is an air crossover pipe that is broken. This pipe connects to both heads and attaches to an air check valve in the middle which is also broken off. I bought the truck like this and because of the firewall it is extremely hard to reach. Anyone know if I can either plug this system or do I really need it?
If your state doesn't require it to be present and functioning for vehicle inspections, you can remove it and plug the holes in the ends of the heads. You can do that by screwing in short 5/8"NC bolts (the holes are threaded) or as I saw recently, just flip the ends of the tube and bolt it back in place to cover the holes. You may get a check engine light from doing this, really not sure though. My 96 E150's 351 doesn't have any of the Thermactor system, never did.
