exhaust gas relief (egr) cross over pipe between the heads and a tube that connects that tube to the exhaust pipe after/before the catalitic convertor. my guess is salvage yard or ford. probably a real pain to change out. NO don't plug it up. I can't tell you why but emmisions and milage and lots of other stuff. Someone will chime in.
I'm not sure if you're 93 will give you problems, but my 90 didn't. Someone on here with a 96 got a check engine light by removing his but that's OBDII. Anyway, I removed my smog pump, all the piping down the passenger side of the engine, and the tube that's rusted on yours. Takes a 2 inch shorter belt, 2 really short 3/4 coarse thread bolts to plug the holes in back of the heads and a couple of screws to plug the vacuum lines to the check valves. I haven't pulled my codes since then, but no check engine light and the truck runs great.
Thermactor air injection crossover tube and check valve. The smog pump adds air into this tube through the check valve which travels through the heads cooling the exhaust valves and passages, and helps remove unburned exhaust. Dealer available, and required for exhaust emissions.
I have a 93 f-150 just finished rebuilding my 302 was very hesitant about removing my air pump and all hardware along with it, well I plugged the holes in back of the heads(5/8"course thread ) and have no problems at all, no computer codes, also no cat converter went with bassani Y-pipe, truck runs great also sounds awesome, bassanni Y-pipe to 40 seriers flowmaster 3" duals out back, anyway leave diverter selinoids pluged in I just plugged the vacume lines that went to the hardware runs great no service codes
You will be fine with removing the emissions, You may have a check engine light on but dont worry about it. My 93 F250 460 doesnt have any emissions, runs great.
Jegs sells modules that correct the check engine light problem but that's for when you do things like add on headers and a improved exhaust system. Sometimes the check engine light comes on then. I don't know if those modules will fix that problem but it might be worth looking into...if you really hate looking at that light.
