My transmission has been replaced three times in my bronco.. This time it's leaking from the front of the transmission where the tourque converter goes in.. Also when I changed the fluid I found metal shavings in the pan.. I was wondering of I should just put a new one in because o the metal shavings or not.??
x2 on the rebuild. But, it sounds like as many times as it has been out, the TC could have damaged the bushing in the pump, now the bushing is spinning (maybe not all of the time) in the pump case.

ask me how I know..............

How do you know and thank you I thought the TC will probably need replaced.. But right now money kind of tight would I be able to use it without rebuilding until I can save up for a new one.?

What usually happens is that the TC gets "cocked" when someone is trying to line up the TC studs & the bellhousing / engine alignment pins. It doesn't take much to mess up the bushing. The bushing is made of a babitt material & the pump house is aluminum, both are soft metal.
I am just goes from first hand knowledge of making these repairs. If you have pulled the trans & put a new TC seal & it still leaks, you will need to dig deeper.
If you overheated it, the damage is done. that's purely my opinion. I will be the first to tell you I have run transmissions that were supposedly toast, until that were absolutely dead, a few thousand miles later, because of $$$.
What you are proposing is probably your best option.
If you can r&r the trans, that will save you a few $$$$, & if you find a repuptable trans shop that doesn't mind doing bench rebuilds, thats a few more $$$ to save.
I just did my e4od in an Expedition, & with all of the upgrades, e.g steel planets, extra clutch plates, Sonnax upgrades, TC, & the TranStar master rebuild kit, I was only into it at $900. Plus my labor = free.
If you have the knowledge to pull it and re-install it, I would change the front pump seal out, drain all the fluid out of torque converter and tranny, install new filter and button her back up. Drive her til she blows. It probably aint gonna hurt it anymore than it already is. So for a days work and probably about $60 it will be drivable for a while. And who knows it may stop leaking. The metal shavings would concern me more than the leak.
