How do i flush my Power Steering?
I paid someone to put on a PS pump and straighten out my cooling system issues. Most were self inflicted!
So I made the assumption that everyone that puts a new PS pump in would drain the system and flush it. I would do that if I owned a shop, I just think it is the best idea and guarantees the elimination of possible cause and contamination. Evidently my assumption was wrong.
So now I am left with flushing the system on my own.
After looking at the system, BTW this is my first time working on a HydroBoost system, I have a few questions.
The large hose under the reservoir is the supply to the pump correct? The small line that is next to that hose is the return from the steering box? The small hose that comes off the hydroboost to the reservoir is the return from hydroboost system?
If my assumptions are correct, then in theory can I take the return lines off of the reservoir and cap the nipples. Remove the majority of the fluid from the reservoir and replace with fresh Merc V. Extend the return lines and place in a
container, start the engine and pump out the old until I get new fluid out of the return hoses?
Has anyone tried this method?

This is a video I made for the 7.3L
I believe it works on the 6.0. Can anyone verify?

Thanks for confirming my idea guys!
I did the flush first thing this AM with the help of my 13 & 6 yr old.
On the 6.0L there are 2 return hoses as I mentioned in my first post. After watching the video I decided to use the one off of the hydro boost only. I use a line clamp and pinched off the line from the hydro boost to the reservoir. I installed a 3 foot long piece of 3/8 fuel line black in color. I had it laying around. I got two see through gallon milk jugs, balanced out not having the clear line. I started the truck up and started turning the wheels. Progress was slow doing this, 5 mins and not even a quart. After 10 minutes I told my 13 yr old to start pumping the brake pedal. This resulted in a half gallon of fluid exchanged in under 5 mins. We ended up pushing 6 quarts total through the system. We stopped when the fluid coming out looked exactly the same as what was going in!
This was the easiest PM I have done to this truck since I have owned it. I also think it has been the cheapest PM I have done also! Steering feels smoother also!
As I have said before in this thread and others THANK YOU to all the members that help out us new guys here! As soon as I get a few paychecks in the bank from the new job I will become a supporter of the site!

You know I thought about flushing my brake system when I did all the rearend work on the Ex..When I couldn't find my vacuum bleeder....while I found part of it and my oldest told me he tossed the rest when he cleaned up a few months ago..I just took it to the nearest tire place and paid 69.99. That was 2 quarts of fluid and 25 mins on the lift. They had it done faster than I could have if I got a tool or had a family member help me. Plus I got to shoot the crap with them and talk them into doing some miscellaneous labor on parts carried in on the cheap.

Oh man that's the Easiest thing to do you just need to get Speed Bleeders Open them Hit the Brakes they wont let any air suck back up in there
Last time I did it I just Cracked all 4 Bleeders open and Let Gravity do the Work
I did do them on the order per spec 1 at a Time
But I think you could get away with Both Rears or Fronts at same time Just close them Off as you see New Fluid come threw
IDK my Lift makes it Nice to Check all around the Tires
