I'm planning on hooking up the high idle switch in my 2004 6.0. I understand that I need to put a switch in the wires that are already behind the dash. What I'm wondering is where did Ford hook these wires? Is there a factory high idle switch I can buy? From what I can tell, 2003-2004 is different than the switches used in 2005 and up. (and so is the way the high idle works)
My 4 switches are from left to right: DVD, reverse lights, heated mirrors, high idle.
If you want to put them in where I did, you need to make sure you feel the underside of the plastic, there are some vertical moldings on the back side.
Why? This is a generic Super Duty question. Gassers have high idle as well.
Because you've got a 6.0 and rarely, if ever, does anyone post about the high idle on a gas Super Duty in the SD forum. They do post a lot about it on the 6.0L forum though. Even better....there's a little box at the top of the page that allows you to search the forums for answers. It may have saved you some time and answered your question.

Still a generic Super Duty question, and yes I searched. There are high idle questions all over the Super Duty forum...
Typically, the chassis would be sent to an aftermarket company to add the motor home body, tow truck body, cargo van, etc. and that company would install their own console with whatever switches they wanted.
You "could" wire it to the e-brake sensor and NOT need a switch - but whenever you put on the e-brake (while in park) the high-idle would kick-in.
Lots of folks also use an upfitter switch to wire it to - if they want and have them.
What do you mean controlling? Raising and lowering the RPM's manually say to 800, 900, or 1000??? No.....
AFA official switches, you can get the upfitter panel and switches if you want it to look factory, but no there isn't an official factory switch for an 04 that I'm aware of.

There are 2 different options for 05+ high idles, PTO or Battery Charge.
PTO is a fixed RPM of about 1200, the BCP is a variable High RPM according to demand.
Just curious could you flip the switch right after turning the truck on in the cold morning
That's what it's for. Makes the truck high idle to help warm the engine faster, prevent wet stacking, and EGR issues. As soon as you hit the brake pedal it idles down, even with the switch actuated.
