I'd like your opinions on something. I hear about the CPS being a common failure point, but I don't think what I have would be described as "hiccuping".
About 75% of the times that my truck has sat for a while (at least 8 hours), upon starting, the truck shakes violently and runs rough and has no power until it clears up.
It doesn't have any problems turning over. It's once it's running. Usually it doesn't continue smoking, but occasionally, it does put out some white smoke.
It will run rough for a while, and I can't really go anywhere until it clears up, because of the lack of power. When I try to give it fuel, it seems to not receive it very well, and occasionally has caused the truck to die, and I will have to start it and wait again.
It takes anywhere from 1 minute to about 4-5 minutes to clear up, and seems to do it during any temperature range. I have done the in-tank mods for the truck, and added an cheaper inline filter that I think I changed out less than a year ago.
I've always questioned the fuel pump, but I've heard they usually don't act up, and I'm not sure this sounds like the symptoms for it. I've got a guys weekend planned next weekend, so I'd like to have the issues worked out by then. Any thoughts?
Thanks, guys.
UPDATE: This morning it did it for more than 5 minutes, and ended up dying before it cleared up. I also had a really difficult time getting re-started. And one last piece of information - I had remanufactured injectors installed at Beans about 25K miles ago after my injector o-rings were leaking pretty bad - they were in there, and the truck had 200K on it, so I figured I'd go ahead and have them done. Also - when it finally "clears up", it's instant (doesn't gradually get better) - it's like a switch was flipped to make the truck run smoother.

Reason: Additional Background Info
I had the same sort of problems.. I ran RevX, two small containers in the oil and fuel additive, added it all after a oil change. drove the truck for a couple hours running around that night and the next day cold start was like a different truck!!! starts wayyyy better and tons more power gets better every time i drive it. only did this last weekend. I recommend it 100% give that a try..
Thanks, redfox. What "same sort of problems" were you having? I added an update to the symptoms at the bottom of the OP. Don't know if that changes anything, but it seems to be getting worse. The list of problems seems weird, I know.
Has anyone else tried this stuff? I'd like to try that stuff, but it's pretty expensive. I'm not saying I'm against it. I'm just saying that I'd like to have someone else's opinion - and an advocate with a few more than 2 posts - before I try it (no offense intended, man - I'd be skeptical of me if the roles were reversed).
Also - this seems like a "patch" for some other problem. What could be at the root of this though? I would rather fix the cause than just put a band-aid on something that may pop up again in a few oil changes.
I actually did buy it today to have it delivered on time - but don't give up on me. I had to have something to get me through the guys weekend if I can't track it down, but I still need to fix it - I won't put this stuff in until I try a bunch of other things (it's gonna be a last resort).
I don't know what an AE is? I have done the hutch mod. My oil has very recently been changed (rotella t or t3 - whichever is better - can't remember right now), and the level was slightly higher than it should be. I believe it was 10-w30, but I'd have to check. It was about 40 this morning, but it's done it in temps higher than that - maybe between 50 and 60.
UPDATE: I do not have access to an AE (looked it up). I wish I did. Are there any places besides dealers that do that sort of stuff? I'm guessing dealers charge for it too, right?

If it is a bad IPR, wouldn't it throw a code (and the check engine light)?
If it's the fuel pump, I've heard they typically just go out. As in they don't trail off (basically no warning) - it's just instant. That's what happened to my dad's 97 7.3 fuel pump.
This is my problem, 2000 7.3 diesel hard start, I have replaced 5 injectors, fuel pump, have checked all glow plugs and relay. Runs good on the road, but rough idle, starts hard, but I give it some gas and then ok. Any ideas?
Ok - my buddy has a scanner that will read parameters. However, I've never used one before, so I'm not sure what I'm going to be looking for.
Could someone provide a quick check of what I'm supposed to find or should be looking for based on what you guys have heard of my situation?
And I'd still like to hear if fuel pumps tend to gradually get worse if they generally just fail outright. And also if the IPR is bad, wouldn't a code be thrown?
