So im looking to convert my 95 xl to xlt power options, I found a 94 xlt I could get for cheap as a donor. I have read other peoples write ups on this job, but I havnt seen anywhere that mentions if there is difference in wiring harnesses between different years. I know there are differences in the plug ins on the steering columns between the years. So does anyone know if there are differences between a 94 and 95? Also, what about the power window guts fitting into a 1986 door? My truck is a 86 body/frame with a 95 interior and powerstroke.
I believe the power options hook to the in cab fuse panel. I did this to the old 85 in my sig, but I used the doors from an XLT, so just had to run the wire from the door switch to the fuse panel, and the wire that runs under the windshield from one door to the other. If the doors from the 94 are in good shape, they are a bolt on fit to the 86. The door panels are different between the 86 and 94, but I believe the 94 panels will fit on the 86 doors if you choose to go that way.
So you already have the 95 dash in your 86? Ok, that is the hrs part.
now you need to remove the dash out of your 86 AND the donor truck. the power window harness runs behind the dash(under the windshield)
As for your doors… the power window regulators will go right in. BUT the hole for the harness to go from theca to the door IIRC is smaller on the 86, so you will need to figure out how to make them larger

Yes, about a year ago I swapped in the whole interior from a 95. ALMOST everything lines up and looks good, but its a blue interior in a puke/tan truck lol. The 94 im looking at has the grey interior. Anyway, if the regulators fit the 86 doors, that takes care of most of my concern. Pulling the dash out gives me the opportunity to soundproof the firewall, should have done that first time.
Now I just gotta track down the owner of the 94, found it in a field beside the shop I work.
