I know some of the Platinum F150 owners have done it. I don't recall anyone saying if it had any sort of alignment holes.
If you can't stand the Platinum tail gate, I suggest just pulling it off and replacing it with a regular tail gate. Set the factory one off to the side to put back on if you ever decide to sell the truck. I'd love to find one for my 01 Platinum but I'm not paying the $800+ they are going for.
That sucks tailgates are going for $800+ near you. I picked up a brand new 2013 for $400, and see them go for $350-450 depending on step or camera.
And no, you cant take it off, unless you want like 20 holes for the clips that hold it on. My friends build a 2014 platinum dually for a SEMA truck and they took it off to have that piece painted, lots and lots of clips
