ok guys i started with the 6637 mod now iam looking at some 5" exhaust..So do i go with the stock look or a set of stacks with 8" mider cut tips ss of course
If your choice is effected by those with arrogant, over opinionated views, then as said, dont do stacks. If you like the way they look and dont care what people think, then go for it! I have 5" stacks on my truck and love em. I use my truck for work and hauling stuff on a regular basis. Some peoples biggest complaints are the lost bed space. I personally run a tool box so an extra 5" lost means little. My personal opinion is that anything over 6 looks off on these trucks. But if you like it, do it.
thanks 7.3, i use mine alot for pulling my cars around to shows and such so i figured that i would step it up a notch with a few mods..I do like the stacks regardless of what op say..I think the extra chrome will look good and help brake up all the black..Do you have any pics of your stack so i could get an idea of the tip size?
I went with 4" on mine, but too big look terrible in my opinion. 6" max. If you DIY you will save some money in exhaust costs. Mine cost me about $300. All black truck with chrome stacks looks pretty sweet to me. But others have their opinions. It's about what you like.
I've had stacks on 2 of my 3 trucks and anything bigger then 5" and you'll look like a GIANT GOON......
I used to have some nice pics of mine unti webshots got taken down I didn't do the lame y pipe in the bed thing either, We split it right off the down pipe and had dual 3" bend up to the bed corners. I'll upload some shots to Flicker later and show you.
The black '97 had side pipes for a few years then I put the stacks on so the piping was done better. when I brought the white reg cab in they same guy did them but I never liked the long straight pipe under the fuel tank, always wanted to redo it and move it up higher and infront of the tank.
FWIW with the side pipe the rear wheels were always dirty. I never had a soot problem on the tail gate with the stacks. if I ever find a normal bed for my crew cab it just might get the same racer back/straight stacks combo as the black truck.....
Do what you like. Personally I prefer a stock exhaust location but stacks can look good. If you do stacks make sure you keep the pieces you cut out of the bed in case you ever want to take them out.
