I am trying to I'd my transmission, I copied these numbers of the id tag.......e0bp gd maybe(Eobp gd) and pem e hib and stamped on the case c6ap 7dq27b with a big B on it. It was three on the tree but the person I bought it off of said when he got it and it had been moved to an automatic on the floor. Thing is it doesn't seem to shift on its own. I'm just trying to figure out what I need to do to get this thing going....any help or direction pointing would be appreciated. I know it's a c4.

Ok, it sounds like from your description it is indeed a C4. The numbers on the "case" you're referring to are actually on the intermediate servo cover, not the actual case. If you have a tag on it with "E0" then I would have to say this is a later C4, 80-86. As far as the shifting problem, can you manually shift through all 3 gears? Seen any white smoke coming out the back? If so then I would start with the vacuum modulator located at the rear of the trans. They are a pretty cheap starting point. Early C4's had screw-in modulators, but if yours is indeed a later unit then it will have a "push-in" style held in by a bracket and bolt. This is the cheapest, easiest starting point. Post back and we'll take it from there. Good luck.
Thanks....I'll take a look at that. I know that the line off the vacuum module is not hooked up to anything. I've been looking on line for a schematic to hook it up correctly.

It needs to be hooked up. Do you have any steel lines running from the intake manifold to the rear off the tranny? C4 is vacuum controlled, does not have a tv cable. Can you manually shift through the gears, starting at low (L or 1) and shifting up at appropriate times until you have in 3rd (D)?
No I can't .....all the way aft it goes and it will move one up from that, the 3rd notch I got nothing and reverse works.
Ok, we'll get to that later. First off that modulator needs to get hooked up. It shouldn't be to difficult, check for the steel line going to back of tranny from intake. If you don't have one then you need to go to parts store to get some to bend. I want to say 1/4" but not sure. As far as not getting 3rd could be a couple things, stuck governor, stuck manual valve, or hardend lip seals in direct (3rd) clutch pack. While you're at the parts store get a bottle of "Lubegard" in the red bottle, this stuff works pretty well on stuck valves if that's the problem.
Maybe the shift linkage is not adjusted correctly?
A possibility as to why there is no "manual" 3rd, but C4 relies on vacuum to shift and since the line isn't hooked up it will never shift on its own. Another possibility is that PO installed a "full manual shift" valve body, very popular with the Mustang guys. If so then no vacuum is needed but will have to manually shift all the time.
