Neutral safety switch advice
I have a 76 F250 with the C6 auto trans. I noticed my shifter started getting sloppy and then when I pulled into the driveway it finally gave way and broke. I remove the steering wheel and found the shift collar was split but not completely broken. The weight or welded tab on the shift tube was also missing and that is why the shifter would move freely. I went to install the new shift tube and I broke the tab that clips onto the shift tube which operates the neutral safety switch. I'm going to order a new nss tab that clips onto the shift tube. My question is, should I go ahead and install the shift tube without the NSS tab and put the shift collar and steering will back on, or should I wait until I get the new nss tab and install the shift tube with the NSS tab on it before I put everything back together? I was not sure if the shift tube could be installed with the NSS tab attached on it or if it had to do be done after the shift tube was installed. Thanks, Dan

Go ahead and put the column back together. The NSS actuator gets installed after the column is back together.
It can be installed with the column in the truck, just a little inconvenient to work on.
