Shift Tube Removal....PLEASE HELP
I'm in the process of rebuilding my steering column from my 65 f250 and I can not remove the shift tube from the column. I have an automatic so there is only one shift lever at the bottom of the column. The shift tube compresses easily onto the spring in the column and turns from park, neutral, reverse, drive, etc with little effort. Any advise on how the shift tube is removed from the top of the column? Shift collar, wiring, etc is all removed
I understand that there is a little tab on the shift tube near the bottom that engages the shift lever (similar to the one on the top of the shift tube that fits into the collar) . I have tried everything to pull the shift tube out of the top of the column but I have had zero success
To answer your questions in advance, I am not interested in installing a floor shifter so please don't offer that recommendation. Aswell a picture diagram of my column with part numbers is of no help. People are rebuilding these columns so I know the answer is out there.
Try shooting WD or PB blaster in where the lower shift lever is as the grease inside is probably hardened sticking the tube to the lever.
