That looks like a electronic dizzy yes? Dang sure the PO did not replace the oil pump or drive rod or he messed with something. But I'd pull the dizzy and inspect it end to end. Also while you have it in your hand push up on the lower shaft with the cap off and see what's happening to make it run bad..orich

If it's got points it's manual, If has a 2 wires coming out that connects with a large plug that leads to the Box off to the side of the inner fender wall then it electronic from a 76 model...orich
