FICM

If your FICM is bad, do you rebuild it or buy new. I had seen people say to sent it to some guy in here. We have nobody in our area that does this that I am aware of.

Is it cheaper to rebuild it than buy new?

Ed will either rebuild yours if you have time to wait.

If not he has an exchange program. It is priced a little bit more. I did the exchange due to lack of downtime. It showed up on my door step. I put it in and turned the key and drove away! Not one issue since with the FICM.

A new FICM from a dealer is around $800 and up plus programming and diagnosing that you have a bad FICM . Ed can take care of you for way less than that. He has options for your piece of mind as far as warranties. He also has different levels of programs and rebuilds. Check out his site and if you still have questions email or call him. I had a ton of questions and he took the time to address them all!

If your talking about the solder repair, its not hard at all to fix. You could take it to a electronics repair, if not comfortable with soldering. I had good luck repair my own. Oh and when you say repairing in our area??? I don't know our area, just mine.

I took mine off last Sunday. Sent it by priority mail to Ed on Monday. He got it on Wednesday and had it back in the mail to me on Thursday. I got it back yesterday (Saturday) and have it back in the truck. You could shorten that by two days if you ship overnight. Of course I am fortunate enough to have another truck so the down time was no big deal to me. Plus I was hunting. Just put a few more miles on the V10 than I normally do.

I need to ask how is your charging system? Usually your FICM dies due to charging system issues.

I'm not aware of any issues. Is there something I can check. Are you talking alternator?

Yes. The standard Alt for our trucks was too low an output from the get-go (110A) -- folks with those have replaced batteries frequently. The optional 140A or dual Alts were much better for the truck.

So current thinking is if you don't have a monster stereo or other extra draw, you should upgrade to at least a 140A alt and make sure your batteries are fully charged and healthy.

It's one of several cascading problems folks have figured out on the 6.0. Low output Alt doesn't charge batts enough (for the loads the 6.0 requires), equals undercharged batts which underfeed the FICM which will suffer as well as can then cause early injector failure...

I know, it's not good news, but knowledge is power on these trucks. Do you have anything yet for monitoring the truck's vitals?

Are you talking exhaust gas? I do not.
I have replaced one battery and 1 injector since 2005.
That is great info though.
