I haven't had a chance to test the FICM in my truck, but cold weather starts with rough idle until warming up and lack of power until warmed up makes me suspect I need to check it out. I read about an option from bulletproof diesel that sounds interesting and was wondering if anyone has tried it? It replaces the power supply with a much better one, also has option for dual components and increased voltage. I'm sure the basic one would be fine for my needs, but it's still more expensive than sending mine in for repair. Anyone have any experience with bulletproof's offerings?
Ok sent my FICM in waiting to get it back. I was reading on there website ( not all of it ), how to disconnect the module. It said to disconnect the battery first,( which I did not do) will there be a problem. I will disconnect it before reinstalling it though. Whoops!

As long as you had key-off, I would suspect you won't harm the FICM, but it's always safest to remove power when disconnecting wiring/connectors.
I usually disconnect the ground wires from both batteries, and remove the driver side battery and air filter housing so I have lots of room to work when I need to go in there - plus no chance of shorting anything out.
You may need to load test those Batteries like now before you kill the ficm again, if your alt is bad its a possibility the batts are taking a hit as well
