My 1991 Ford Explorer has a hard code error #22 which is "manifold absolute/barometer sensor error" but I cannot find any thing in my repair maual where I can locate this sensor. Any one have any ideas?

Bob, that's a strange one, since I'm pretty sure you don't have a MAP/BAP sensor. The computer determines the manifold pressure by comparing the MAF (mass air flow) sensor with the TPS (throttle position sensor) outputs.
I would start with cleaning the MAF wires, and checking the output on the TPS. It's easy if you have a multimeter. Basically you are looking for a smooth transition from 1v-4v on the TPS signal wire, when the throttle is advanced (key on, engine off).
My 91 does have a baro sensor. It is located on the firewall just right of the center. Black box about 1 inch thick and 4 inches tall. It only has a wiring harness hooked to it and the air inlet port is supposed to have a foam filter to cover the opening (mine has long since disappeared and only a grey ring remains).
Hope this helps

Are you sure it's a 22 your reading and not 122? I thought the samething and looked for the MAP on my firewall and did'nt see one. Turn's out I was reading the code wrong. It was the TPS. 1994 F-150 5.0 Good luck.
