Steering box

Finally got tired of the sloppy steering in my 06 f350.
Sent redhead an email since that's what everyone seems to recommend
$450 for the box
$250 for the core charge
$150 for shipping to me in Alberta.

So needless to say im not spending $850 on a steering box (I know i get the core back after returning mine which would be another $150 to send it back so if get $100 back. )

Is there any other aftermarket boxes that are decent? My truck isn't a daily driver. I mainly use it on weekends and to haul my toys around.

Is a reman box from NAPA decent?

Any other suggestions?

I actually had a Lares box that I got off of rock auto on my 03 before I put on the redhead and if the pitman shaft seal wouldn't have failed it would still be on. I thought the Lares one was nice and tight and came with a lifetime warranty. I have only had my redhead on for a week and quite honestly I don't really notice any difference between the two, other than the redhead was almost $300.00 more....

I thought I read a thread on here about adjusting steering box's on the SD's and eX's. Supposed to fix that sloppyness and If I remember correctly, super easy to do. Maybe one of the main guys will chime in with the link.

I have adjusted the boxes on previous trucks hag I have owned/drove and it is a temporary "fix"

So I figured I'd just replace the box all together while I have a bit of money in hand. Just not the $850 I'd need for a red head.

Just looked up the lares box and it's $185 on rock auto but It's "return and rebuild" only. I can't have my truck siting for a couple weeks with out the steerin box in it. I do all my work at my work so inner to have it out of the shop when I leave. No room to leave it there without a steering box.

I called lares direct and they didn't have any stock on that box. They would rebuild mine tho.

I got a reply from redhead again today and said shipping would be more like 35-50$

So 465 + 50 ship there and 50 return core

565 isn't bad. There's a local place that wants 540 for their rebuilt box. I might go with the red head anyways

For the Lares box you are better off going through rock auto because you get a way better deal, Like $150 cheaper than buying it directly from Lares. Ask me how I know
