Deja Vu - Hot No Start

I did my standpipes/dummy plugs and stc fitting update on my 05 about 15000 miles ago and everything has been fine. Well every since Sunday I have developed the hot no start again. Pressure will get to about 320 and hold and then finally after forever itll bust off and run perfectly. My question is how common is a repeat failure on this repair. I would rule out the fitting since the one piece fitting dont really have anything to leak or blow out. As far as the standpipes or dummy plugs, since they have orings I guess there is always that possibility. Now I havent unplugged the icp yet to see if that changes anything but only because it has been a hot no start and the voltage output looks good. Should I pull the valve covers or take another plan of attack.

Air test the system and listen for leaks. I might suspect an oil rail nipple or injector o-ring leak. You should also pull and check the IPR valve.

X2 on the air test and here is a post done by creator that details the oil rail nipple cups and top injector orings, https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ole-story.html

Make sure your ICP reads 0 KOEO. If it's higher than that like 100 or so, the IPR won't allow the pump to build to 500psi. IPR should show 85% when cranking.

Dirty IPR screen would be my guess.

I'll give it a good once over this weekend. Luckily I've got AE and an air adapter so I can do the air test.

OK, off to a slow start today but I have done the air test on the icp port and have air coming from the oil cap port. I have AE hooked up and actuated the IPR to 90% and no change whatsoever in the venting from the cap port. Now I know most people use a pigtail or wiring to jump 12V to the IPR but figured AE works just as good. Now Im assuming Im doing everything right. Pulled oil cap, pulled air filter setup, pulled ICP sensor and screwed in my adapter and hooked air to it. Had air running a few minutes to get pressurized and then the air started hissing from where the oil cap goes, commanded IPR to 90% via AE and no change. I did not hear any clicking from the IPR but some people on various youtube videos say that they cant hear theirs click. Now for my next plan of attack. Since all my standpipes, dummy plugs and stc fitting has been updated and truck is running perfect with the IPR functioning 25-55% driving and dont remember ICP values but they are good aswell, should I pull the IPR valve and check the screen or pull the passenger side valve cover? Would a busted IPR screen cause irratic running on top of a hotstart? On one of Diesel Tech Rons videos he showed an IPR valve that was stuck but since mine seems to be functioning and Im building up to around 3900 psi under load down to around 600 idling and everything in between Im leaning against the screen but yall are the experts. Also the ICP sensor was clean at the connector port. Now I havent unplugged it during the hot no start to see if it would crank. It just finally does. When the hot no start does occur it only builds to about 320 psi then finally after about 10-15 secs fires up. I know I ramble alot so I appologize. Thanks guys.

Just wondering why you commanded 90% and not 100%?

On one of Diesel Tech Rons vids he said that 85% was open(closed) so he commanded 90% so just did like he did.

I believe 85% is what the scan gauge shows, but 100% would be fully closed on A/E. I could be wrong. Someone will hopefully clear this up.

I didnt really progress beyond doing the air test but since I was using my dads garage I was gonna move the truck so he could put his truck back in for the night but I guess having all the air in the system has made it hard to start now plus having AE on it off and on during the day I have ran the batteries down too low to purge the air to crank it back up so leaving it on the charger overnight. Will try and do the 100% to see if that changes anything. Was doing some reading and would just a dirty screen cause a no start hot? I was just thinking in theory that if the screen was dirty/punctured or somewhat that the truck would run like poo but thats not the case, runs strong as always, just dont wanna start back up for a few after its been run for a little while. Hasnt even tried to stall out or anything so just wondering if I should bother pulling the IPR to observe it? Dont wanna waste time on the wrong thing but then again I may be wasting time by not pulling it. Bad thing is, if the screen was dirty, I changed all that out when I did the stc update and the old one was in mint condition but I cant for the life of me remember if I tossed the old one or put it up somewhere.

Started the process of investigating the hot no start again today and redid the air test, could never tell a difference by using AE to activate the IPR valve so pulled the turbo so I could get it out and look at the screen. Screen looked new so rigged up some wires to the harness to try and actuate it that way, this time did hear a click then a low hum and the air sounded the same coming out the passenger side oil spout. Pulled valve cover to see about pinpointing a more exact location but it sounds the same just a loud whoosh of air regardless of jumping the IPR valve. Decided to pull the dummy plug since those are usually suspect even though mines been updated and the bottom teflon keeper overlaps itself. Im uploading a pic of it to see if that could be the issue, it doesnt stick out any just overlaps and the orings themselves look good. Any ideas before I try something else?
