Just had one of the strangest things happen tonight. I was backing my car hauler trailer into a dark corner using my 2001 7.3 dually while my business partner was directing me with a set of 154.570 mhz walkie talkies. As we were moving back and forth he was talking me in when all of the sudden my truck died. Popped it up into park and it fired back up. Then again moved back up and re-positioned moving back he said looks good and the truck died. This kept happening but I finally got the truck into place. Unhooked the trailer and went down the road with no problems. Until my partner asked over the radio how it was running I answered him and it died again. I rounded the block and pulled back to the shop and looked around under the hood. All seemed fine until my partner call over the radio hows it running. I keyed up and the engine died. That is when the light final went on that the radios were killing the engine. I could walk around and could change the way the truck ran by tapping the talk button.
Came home telling my wife about it and she hit the internet and found that the aftermarket ICP is not shielded against RF noise. A quick test of this by unplugging it starting confirmed that the engine continued to run. Shut it down plugged it back in and I could kill the engine with a quick key of the radio. This sensor is going back to the part store and I am going to enjoy showing the guys what is wrong with their part. I am just glad that I was somewhere that it was not too dangerous.
My truck seemed to go through ICP sensors like water and I got tired of paying $169 EVERYTIME an ICP sensor went bad by causing a surging rough, inconsistent idle.
SO I went to O'reilly Auto and bought ICP202 so I wouldn't have to cough up an insane amount of money for a bloody sensor.
Well....
Since doing so, I've noticed that my truck seems to "hate" certain parts of downtown Houston, it also seems to hate downtown San Antonio too, why? Now I have the answer: RF interference.
The lesson here: Buy the Ford ICP sensor as expensive as it is.

I remember that one, His truck would die every time he drove through a praticular intersection that was surrounded by a huge substation up in MI or WI if memory serves.
I wonder if a ferrite bead on the ICP pig tail would cure this?
Guys, guys....as much as i like slap'n my wifes' b-hine, i cant on this one. The kudos and wife thunbs up are great, but it wasnt me..lol It was a thread i came across. I merely "shared" it for the knowledge of an issue at hand, and how Tugly worded it, its the route i was taking this....I'll keep my reps though
