rear window

I read a lot about the installation of the rear window. However, I never got the answer on if the window is installed from the inside or the outside.
I had to remove mine since the PO installed the rubber gasket backwards and now want to reinstall over my headliner as is supposed to be. Seems to me there was a lot of discussion on these slicks previously being unusual as to the rear glass, and it would make sense - since the liner wraps around the widow to install from the inside.
So which way is it?

Also- if a sliding glass is used- will the frame clear if installed from the inside?

Scott

I am wondering if the rear window can have a sliding (3 or 4 piece glass) since it is installed from the inside. Does anyone have one or recommendations on the ones they like?

Suggest doing some research, run a FTE search under sliding rear window and narrow the search field to the 61-66 forum. I have seen some really bad one's, and others that look okay. Many of the sliding glass frames I have seen do not actually conform to the shape of the rear window opening and consequently there's a slight gap between the frame and the gasket; understand they don't leak but IMO there's a noticeable gap. A thread on topic some time back where member's posted pic's and the issue was which gasket minimized the appearance of a gap; the black gasket, and/or, I believe there's an aluminum trim that fits around the window hiding the gasket but can't recall consensus of members preference? Certainly would not go to PeP Boy's or local auto parts looking for a replacement, perhaps if any members purchased one from LMC, DC, or any other online supplier's would post pic's may help in decision?? In a thread on topic from many years back, couple member's made favorable comments on the sliding window by manufacturer CR Laurence; posting a link with understanding by no means is it a recommendation. Hopefully other members with current experience will have comments and post some pic's?

I'd like to see some feedback from others that have or had experience with CRL I'm looking for a slider for my 66 and will be getting one for my 71 when I get to that point. I know 67-72 it was optioned from factory but if they are quality made from CRL maybe I can get a package deal going

Where did you get the slider windows from? How long ago was it that you put them in?

Now recall what the issue was that I mentioned in post#5: it started off by member's posted pic's of their sliding window and then question became whether the aluminum frame vs the black frame made the slight dip less or more noticeable? Can't recall member's consensus but fairly certain I preferred the black frame because it appeared to blend in with the black gasket; whereas, with the alum. frame, in my view, the black gasket stood out and appeared to me the dip/gap was a bit more noticeable, but that would be a matter of personal preference.?

Well here we go again- Becky says install from the inside and Custom cab did install from the outside. Could anybody post pictures of the gasket over the headliner and also the outside. with either installation???
I took mine out since it was installed incorrectly (I was told) from the outside, ---the gasket WAS wrong, It stuck out 1/2" past the body

maybe my gasket was reversed and the glass does not matter

Thanks

Scott

If understand correctly Becky is a 66 is referring to rear glass window ; whereas; Custom cab mentions (post #8) is referring to the sliding window variety and (post #9) found it easier to install from outside??

Dave is correct, I was referring to the original glass; NOT an aftermarket slider -- have not installed one of those so cannot comment. Would take pics for you but am working in Louisiana and trucks are in North Carolina.
