Interesting that at least a couple of you use T/H all the time with your trailers hooked up.
I use it going down hills, sometimes going up, but never in the flats. This trans isn't like others that need to be in tow mode whenever you have a load.
Go ahead and ask Mark K. yourselves...
Sorry for breaking in here, I think a slide-in camper w/trailer is about the toughest thing I can throw at this truck (slide-in campers just act like a wind catcher going down the road). I rarely see mileage numbers like you guys...
Tow Haul just changes the up and down shift points and allows for the trans to choose the engine braking gear. If you have it off and manually shift the trans on a down hill it is the same, as far as the awesome Torqshift is concerned...
its all cool dan that's what im interested in everyone's experience
I too use the toe option to my advantage i believe the sifts are more
firm in the toe mode , but in the normal mode i feel less shifts and and lower rpm sift
limits i think its a little easier on the engine running normal on flats.. but common sense goes along way.
the main concern was my truck and after all I've been through with it was it working as it should
Well guys another tour to grayton beach fl from springfield mo ...truck did fine milage about the same I did go with straight exhaust and larger tires(300 vs 265) pulling the 27 footer 5 th wheel ,still got 10 mpg straight exhaust didn't help but sure got there attention going through the bad parts of Memphis on 78!!!
Truck pulled like a kenworth !

To OP, I get an average of 11 mpg towing my fifth wheel, approx 12000 pounds. I leave tow haul on 100% of the time, figuring the trans will keep the engine happy while towing, but that's just my thinking... MPG goes down a little on steep mountain passes.
Likewise, I Always tow in tow/haul mode. Better shift points, engine braking, and most important as noted by Ford, cooler tranny temps.
I won't compromise temps. Ford gives us the advantage when towing and some just don't use it!

As long as you didn't get on it while cruising through Seagrove, they let you out of there alive.
I've wondered about camping at Grayton, but have never pulled the trigger.
To the OP, I push 9 mpg towing 32' TT .... But I tow it between 75 and 80 mph. I believe there no better highway sail than a long TT.

I don't use tow/haul on the flats because I don't feel the engine or tranny needs it. Have never seen the tranny over 185 and that includes when climbing or descending.

X2 on that. I use it on pulling grade, downhill descending and stopping for the engine braking effect. Flat land, no need. My 5'er is around 13,500 lbs. +

I can't answer that since I've seen no need to use it on the flats. My boost is usually 2.5 to 5 psi on the flats which I consider good pulling the 5er.
