I'm guessing I'll have to go through the wiring harness but my blinkers just stopped working. I thought it might be the relay so I replaced it but that didn't work. So I'm guessing a bad connection or a bad ground.
Just wondering if there is something that's known that goes bad or if I just need to go through it the old fashion way with a multimeter?
Jowilker: Brake lights do NOT work. 4 ways (hazards) DO work. (How did you know that the brake lights weren't going to work?) I'm not Jowilker. He knows more than me.
Daveengles & rogue40: all the fuses checked seem fine. I used the continuity setting on my multimeter and got a "beep" through each fuse.
The brake and blinker circuits are interconnected through the blinker switch. This allows the the side that is blinking to shut off that side's brake light.
The four ways are on a different circuit from the blinkers and brake lights but run down the same wires to the lights. The fact that the four ways operate tells me that the downstream wiring is ok.
The brake lights will still work if the blinker actuator dies so that leaves the one common denominator of the turn signals and brake lights as the turn signal switch.
I would pull the steering wheel and, using a lighted circuit tester and wiring diagram, chase it out from the turn signal switch terminals.
Ok. Cool. Thanks for helping me generalize the area. I'm not looking forward to pulling the steering wheel (but only because I've never pulled one before.) But it gives me a project for tomorrow.
I'd go back to the flasher before pulling the steering wheel. Not saying the issues is not up there, but if you pull the flasher and see if the 4way will plug in, you might save some baad uttered words.
On my 62, the turn signals also go thru the horn relay. If your horn relay is disconnected or bad, my turn signals will not work on my 62. You may look at that?
