flasher relay
flasher relay
I'm guessing I'll have to go through the wiring harness but my blinkers just stopped working. I thought it might be the relay so I replaced it but that didn't work. So I'm guessing a bad connection or a bad ground.
Just wondering if there is something that's known that goes bad or if I just need to go through it the old fashion way with a multimeter?
Thanks,
Hillbillybuddha

Yeah. Well, now that you mention it, I'm not sure. The rear running lights DO work but I'll go check the brake lights here in a few hours.
The green indicator light inside the cab does NOTwork, the little "click click click" sound does NOT work. Nether the front nor back signals work.
The indicator lever does work. Meaning, it clicks into both positions easily and resets when I turn the steering wheel.
I'll get back at you about the brake lights and the 4 way lights.
Everything worked fine a few days ago and the only electrical thing I've done recently was change the license plate light about a week ago. *

Ive had to chase a few ground gremlins on my 66.
There are several ways to proceed, here is my suggestion:
Raise the hood, turn the ignition on and activate the right or left turn signal.
Use a test light on the turn signal plug, ground the light to the core support and see if you have power.
If you do, its a ground problem, if you do not have power, it could be anything.
That's quick and easy and it will give you a place to start.

After that it is starting to look like the blinker switch.

I'm not Jowilker. He knows more than me.

The four ways are on a different circuit from the blinkers and brake lights but run down the same wires to the lights. The fact that the four ways operate tells me that the downstream wiring is ok.
The brake lights will still work if the blinker actuator dies so that leaves the one common denominator of the turn signals and brake lights as the turn signal switch.
I would pull the steering wheel and, using a lighted circuit tester and wiring diagram, chase it out from the turn signal switch terminals.
Ok. Cool. Thanks for helping me generalize the area. I'm not looking forward to pulling the steering wheel (but only because I've never pulled one before.) But it gives me a project for tomorrow.
I'd go back to the flasher before pulling the steering wheel. Not saying the issues is not up there, but if you pull the flasher and see if the 4way will plug in, you might save some baad uttered words.
