If it takes the WTS count plus 20 (so aprx. 30 seconds) of GP time at 40F, something's not right. Not all GPs are glowing, or weak relay (just because it closes doesn't mean it's good), or something. It's been 40-ish F in the mornings here, and the WTS time is usu. 10 seconds, and both ours light up just fine on that.

If there are several ranges on your meter, use the one with the lowest number value.
Nate, as always, gracias! I think I mentioned my GPR is out. I jumped it with a screwdriver yesterday just to see what kind of start up I would get and it fired right up. I also meter tested it and got 12v to one post and ZERO to the other. yep, she's dead. I just figured I would OHM the GPs anyways since it seems easy enough.

Just be careful bending the tab up on the valve cover harness to unplug them. They get brittle from the oil and heat and it's really easy to break the latch tab off. Let's just say I've never broken one unless I was trying to unhook one of them, lol. I generally use a small screwdriver and try to bend the tab just enough to release them. Even then sometimes that is too far.

You got that right Nate! I try to be careful and they break. Plug it back in and put some goop on it and let it dry overnight. The mule has a couple plugs like that now and the goop has held them for a couple of years now.

okay, I tested all of the glow plugs through the harness. I got OL on all but one, which read 114.00. I think OL means out of range or something. Does this prove I need GP's. Not all that excited about doing them since I will not be getting stage 1 injectors now.

Did you test the meter by touching the probes together, to make sure it would show zero (or close to zero) ohms?

If those are for real, then either the glow plugs are bad, or you have wiring problems under the covers.

yep it shows zero. Can they all be bad and the truck still start? I wonder if I did it wrong.

Where did you put the other probe on the meter when you tested the pins?

I first used the battery negative. Then used a good metal ground on the truck. Both read the same. I also used two multimeters to rule out the possibility of one being bad. Truck didn't want to start this morning. Although, I think my php hydrachip might be part of the problem.

Sounds like everything with the meter and the procedure checks out. Time to pull the valve covers....
