When I last replaced my old carpet, before I laid the new kit in, I spray glued 2 layers of 3/8" foam carpet pad in first. A little more cushion, more quiet, and better insulation. A carpet store will prob have a big enough piece in the trash dumpster.
I am going to use rubberized undercoat when I start to restore my 1972 Ranger XLT in a couple of months. When I restored a 1969 Mach 1 several years ago, I sprayed rubberized undercoat everywhere I could get to and see, like on the inside of the doors, all floor pans, firewall, and the inside of the rear fender wells from the inside of the car. I then used all new carpet underlay and then factory carpet. Thats worked like a champ, and it rode quiet!
That's a great looking truck, William. Did you have any problems with the spray on undercoating when it got hot inside the car? Smell, softening, etc?
Thanks...

Originally posted by GolferSA I'm going to strip the seat, gas tank and carpet out and coat the inside of the cab (floor and back wall) with the roll on bedliner... thoughts?
I would recommend this over the undercoating. I have a Jeep I've done this with and am very happy with the results.
Used to do that all the time on truck and car floors, even a few Mustang floor panels that were replaced and then a thin coat of roofing tar, allowed to harden a few days made that car very quiet. The spray will make future bolts and nuts hard to remove if you dont tape them first
Originally posted by williamwilliam Hey, no, I dont have any problems at all with any type of smells or anything like that when it was hot inside the car. It worked very well for me.
Nice truck. Very high on my wish list. does it have a/c?
My truck has the very old add-on "sears" underdash unit that was put on the truck back in 1971. I have found an original factory unit that I will put on it......one day.

Is that the one that takes up half the interior and leaves no room for a passenger? I have one of those for my 68 but decided I would rather use the old hang on for the sake of simpicity.
No, its the one that hangs down in the middle of the dash so whoever is sitting in the middle over the hump dont have any room at all. Looks like a big freezer hanging there under the dash
