I have had a petronix on my 1968 torino since 1999, never had any problems with it and it runs good even when it rains hard never get the poping like when points get wet.
I really like it because you dont have to fiddle with it and you usally can feel a difference when driving your vehicle up in the higher RPMs, and it helps on mileage also.
Yep, its a "hall effect" sensor. I am not surprised that there are at least a few failures. We have a pretty good sample size here so statistically there should be an occasional failure. The manufacturers can only do so much from the QA/QC standpoint. The important thing is that they are willing to set things right and will replace failed components quickly. Now that's customer service.
