I got the cab onto the frame today.

I'm waiting on a few things before I can move on with installing the rear axle. I have the links that came with the axle but no bracketry. So I designed the brackets I need and sent the cad/dxf. file to the water jet guy I use.

Brackets should be ready tomorrow. I ordered the rear coil-over shock mounts though.

The axle is squared up and welded in place, ready for the links to be mounted to it. I have these shocks for the rear:
(58624 Monroe)

The inner fenders needed to be notched for the new suspension so I did that. The passenger needed metal replaced where it mounted to the frame. It was rusted away but good as new now.

Then I started on the motor. It was delivered to the shop on sunday. First thing I did was take the intake/carb off. It had an old Holley that likely would need a rebuild and looked ugly. The intake was a nice Shelby dual plane but was grungy and I wanted something that had a different look.

Painted it after cleaning all the oil and grunge off of it. Black engine enamel.

^These^ valve covers came with the motor as an extra set. They'll go perfect the intake I ordered today....

Coming along with the new intake is a new Edelbrock 650cfm carb. They'll be here tomorrow morning.

I hope to get the engine back together tomorrow and then maybe get it situated in its new home.

The new intake and carb look a lot better than what it originally had.

The bracket pieces that I had cut turned out great.

After removing a busted intake bolt ... I set the carb up with the Lokar throttle and kickdown cables. Then I got the motor on the hoist and started positioning it to see the clearances.

So far so good.

I got a few things figured out since the last update. I ordered the tubular crossmember from Progressive Automotive and said I was using the C4 tranny right?(very common choice). So they said they'd send the proper mount to go along with the kit. Sooo, I installed the crossmember exactly how the instructions say. Then, I did some measurements once I got the cab on and the block in place. No way was the short C4 going to reach the crossmember that was supplied/installed. The mount is supposed to install/weld on the lower bars of the assembly. In order to install the C4 I would have needed to extend the lower crossmember bars forward and it would have interfered with the brake assembly!

Instead of trying to deal with that, I opted to get the bigger C6 transmission. Its mount was further toward the rear (longer trans.) and partially reached the PA cross-member. The rearward ears of the tranny mount reached the crossmember. The tube bent toward the frame so the forward ears didn't reach. I made my own longer forward tabs in order to reach the crossmember tube.

The rear coil-over shock mounts I ordered have arrived too. The rearend should be buttoned up this week, painted etc.

I hope to get a lot done before the end of this week. Maybe get the motor mounted and running. I'm currently waiting for the new motor mounts. The back should get painted and ready for the box.

Smile Cool !!!!

That looks good, so you had to make them to extend forward to reach, So you Improvised and it worked out.... The shocks look Nice.... I'm sure you have a Little bit of Excitement hoping to get the rear end together and getting your Engine Started, I would... Nice rig, thanks for sharing!

Yeah, sometimes improvisation is the only option. Although this time I think it was a fortunate happenstance. A newer stronger transmission isn't a bad thing. I have an IDIDIT column to tranny shifter cable and brackets for a C4 but I think I can "adjust" the bracketry to work. If I need to make news ones so be it. The Lokar kickdown cable should still work...I hope.

I ordered an "Ecurve" MSD dizzy for the motor. Also got a new MSD "Blaster 2" coil to help light the mix. My father tried an Ecurve dizzy with bad results but I think I'll give it a shot. He got a bad one if I recall correctly and just got a mechanical advance instead. We'll see how it goes.

Thanks I Appreciate that, A Newer Stronger Transmission is a GREAT THING.... well hopefully you can adjust the Bracketry to work so you don't have to go through making New Ones. I've gone to a few Truck Shows and spoken to a few people that had the ECURVE MSD Dizzy and they had no complaints about them, Only the PRICE was a liittle bit HIGH but if it's good then I have no problem with the PRICE. COOL THREAD... LOVE to see your PROGRESS on the Truck, it will turn out NICE...
