0216 = Domestic Special Order number, truck special ordered by original purchaser, not "bought off the lot."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ford 9" rear axle standard equipment, Dana 44, Dana 60.2, Dana 60.3 rear axles, all with Limited Slip, all with inspection covers, all with 5 lug wheels, optional RPO's (Regular Production Orders).
Originally, there was a rear axle ID tag located under one of the bolts that retains the inspection cover to the housing. Cover is so caked with grease, I cannot see it.
It might be there...might not be, as these tags are usually missing today, which is (sadly) a common occurrence. People forgot to reinstall them when they put the covers back on.
No AXLE code stamped on the Warranty Plate: Truck ordered special by original purchaser, who requested a non standard rear axle not installed in F100's.
If a part failed, dealer contacted FoMoCo with 6 digit DSO, they look up the order number, pass the info back to the dealer what type of axle it is and where the parts can be found.
FoMoCo THREW AWAY the DSO records decades ago, so there's is no way to discover what rear axle it was ordered with.
It might be a Dana 60, normally only installed in F250's, but F250's have 8 lug wheels on a 6.50" bolt circle, while all 1953/79 F100's, some 1980/83 F100's have 5 lug wheels on a 5.50" bolt circle.
If you could get the numbers that are stamped on the ring and pinion gears, it might be possible to ID it. Ditto if the ID tag is still present.
