As far as I know, the GPR on our trucks is fired every single time the key is turned on, regardless of temps. SO what I thought is a toggle switch mounted inside the cab to break the signal coming from the computer to the GPR firing it. REAL EASY SOLUTION and will save your GP's and GPR from being used when not needed.
Run 2- 16 gauge wires to the GPR from the area you want the switch, we're not concerned with polarities or color coding, its just breaking a circuit.
Disconnect the small orange(sometimes red) wire that is closest to the front end, cut terminal off, splice this wire with one you ran from the switch, you can either use a butt connector here or solder the splice.
you will take 1 round crimp terminal and terminate your wire from the switch so it can be installed in place of your orange/red wire on the GPR
The wait to start light does come on for an instant when the engine is warm, but for MOST of the 7.3L vehicles, the glow plug relay is not commanded to be energized with oil temperatures above 85 degrees F.
For fun, you could replace that switch with a thermal switch... but it's just one more thing to troubleshoot when smoke comes out the tailpipe at startup.
