Project or money pit?

Well i have the oppertunity to buy yet another ford truck . A 73 f250 4x4 long bed with the 390 . Now i love all of that right up to the long bed part . I like the extra capacity in the bed but the crazy long wherl base is what i have a problem with. Especially in my expirience the places im gonna be taking the truck all that extra truck in the rear and that uber long wheel base makes negotiating some climbs and definately turns a little bit of an issue. So would it even be plausible to shorten the wheel base within money/time reason? Or without possibly slicing up the frame.

Ford never made a F250 4x4 (highboy) short box so it would certainly be original.

With the highboys divorced T-case the rear drive shaft would be very short and may create issues with the driveline angle.

This one has potential to be a money pit on so many levels. I say just go for it.

Save your money and go buy a short bed 1/2 ton and wheel it.....And get or make one of these to get some more bed space, for when needed.

You think that a reg cab LB is long, look at a SC (Super Cab aka extended cab) LB now that's a 40 acre turn around rig.

With a twin stick xfer case and a brake line lock mod you can drag a front end or push a back end around anything on the trail.....

A F250 stock or basic lifted suspension is not a off the shelf flexing rock crawler anyway.

Where to do you go wheeling BTW?

Here is how we haul fire wood around my neck of the woods. Flatbed.....

I think it is a standard prerunner/baja set up on them California chase truck rigs.

I like the design, especially with it removable like a pipe rack set up on work trucks, but with alot more style.

And some real trick work on that Raptor.

There's only sixteen inches difference in a short and long wheelbase. I know a guy that put 3/4 ton springs under a short-bed years ago. If you had filling in your teeth it would shake them out. Talk about rough!
